SARC-F is a brief, five-item screening tool to assess sarcopenia, a condition of age-related muscle loss. The name is an acronym for its components: Strength, Assistance with walking, Rising from a chair, Climbing stairs, and Falls. Each of the five components is scored from 0 to 2, for a total possible score of 0 to 10. A score of 4 or greater suggests a risk for sarcopenia and poor functional outcomes. Use SARC-F plus functional tests (Hand grip strength, Gait speed, Short Physical performance battery, Chair stand test, Time Up and Go); The current guidelines highlight body composition assessment to address sarcopenia via combined nutrition/exercise in dialysis.
